This is a fairly creepy series with a lot of interesting ideas. Many young readers have become obsessed with Darren Shan’s books, so this series could be a good way to get kids into reading.

  • De la CRUZ, Melissa: Blue Bloods Series (Hyperion 2007) Set among the glitterati vampire families in New York.
  • GRAY, Claudia: The Evernight Series (HarperTeen 2008) Bianca is a 16-year-old vampire girl.
  • POOLE, Gabriella: The Darke Academy Series (Hodder 2009ff) Vampires in a posh boarding school.
  • SMITH, L. J.: The Night World Series (Simon&Schuster 1996) Ten volumes about dark creatures in a world of their own.
  • SUMMERS, Tamara (i.e. T. T. Sutherland): Never Bite a Boy on the First Date (HarperCollins 2009) Kira's problems as a fairly newish vampire.
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) TV-series; at the age of 15, Buffy Summers was chosen to hunt vampires; pre-dated by the movie from 1992.
  • Dracula (1958) The first of many with Christopher Lee.
  • Dracula (1992) Coppola's remake.
  • Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994) A vampire tells his "life"-story; based on Rice's book.
  • The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) Polanski's funny account of how vampire killer Prof Ambrosius and his assistant help to spread vampirism.
  • The Lost Boys (1987) Two brothers are convinced their town is frequented by vampires.
  • True Blood (2008) Rather gory series based on the Harris novels.
  • Underworld (2003) Vampire Selene in a battle between werewolves and vampires.
